KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – Officials are warning Kinston residents of possible flooding, namely near the Neuseway Nature Park.

Mayor Don Hardy shared on Facebook that there’s a flood warning for the Neuse River in effect until further notice.

This comes as afternoon and evening storms are expected throughout the week.

The river was at 14.4 feet, according to Hardy, while the flood stage is at 14 feet. The river is expected to crest Wednesday morning at 15.4 feet, his post reads.

According to Hardy, when the Neuse River reaches 16 feet, flooding is expected at the nature park’s campground.

The mayor shared a few ways to stay safe and informed, which include:

Avoiding going to low-lying areas if flooding warnings are still in effectObeying road closures and barricades and avoiding driving through flooded roadwaysPreparing for temporary disruptions near the Neuse River

Hardy says the city is working with local, state and federal emergency management teams and will provide updates as conditions change.
