Jack Dover is eager to put last weekend behind him following a pair of rare DNFs.
The Tim Estenson Motorsports competitor qualified seventh quickest and quickly took the lead in a heat race before disaster ended his night early on Friday during a POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League show at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
“It spit the driveshaft out in the heat race,” he said. “When it did that it twisted the motor pretty hard so we called it a night to be safe. Fortunately, when we checked it out at the shop everything was okay.”
The team ventured to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday and Dover opened the night by setting quick time during qualifying. He then finished fourth in a heat race to garner the 11th starting position in the 25-lap Cressman Sanitation Midwest Sprint Touring Series 410 Sprint Cars main event.
“I was really excited for last night because I knew how good our car has gotten since Brian Kemenah helped us at Knoxville,” he said. “Setting quick time shows that we’re better. As a driver I could tell how much better my car is so that makes me excited for the rest of the future.”
Dover climbed to seventh before a parts failure forced him to pull off with eight laps remaining. He was credited with an 18th-place result.
“We realistically were a fifth- or sixth-place car,” he said. “I was going to be happy. There wasn’t a lot of passing so when we can move forward it’s a good night, but unfortunately we had a DNF.”
Dover continues to lead the MSTS 410 Sprint Cars championship standings heading into another series race this Saturday at Off Road Speedway in Norfolk, Neb. The weekend concludes on Sunday with a return to Huset’s Speedway, where Dover now ranks fifth in the championship standings – only four points out of third place.
“I’m really excited for Off Road Speedway,” he said. “I’ve done well there in my career and Timmy (Estenson) gets to race so I’m pumped for that. I know the feeling when I was helping Timmy and I got to race so I’m excited to see him rip.”
