COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Hampton University announced its 2025-26 men’s basketball schedule on Tuesday, the same day that the Coastal Athletic Association released its conference slate.
The Pirates will open the season Nov. 3 at Milwaukee, which finished third in the Horizon League last season. Hampton’s home opener will be Nov. 6 against Mid-Atlantic Christian.
Other notable dates for HU include Nov. 11 at Virginia, Nov. 18 at Boston College, Nov. 21 at Norfolk State, Feb. 7 against William & Mary and March 3 at William & Mary.
Hampton will also take on North Carolina A&T on either Feb. 13 or 14 in Los Angeles in the NBA HBCU Classic, which will be part of NBA All-Star weekend.
William & Mary will begin CAA play Dec. 29 against defending regular-season champion Towson at home. The Tribe, which hasn’t announced its non-conference schedule yet, will play these CAA teams twice: Hampton, UNC Wilmington, Northeastern, North Carolina A&T, Elon and Campbell.
The CAA Tournament will be held March 6-10 in Washington, D.C.

Tides’ game postponed
The Norfolk Tides’ series-opening game against the Charlotte Knights at Harbor Park has been postponed due to inclement weather.
The game will be made up as a part of a single-admission doubleheader Wednesday, starting at 5:05 p.m.
Gates will open at 4:30 p.m.

Morris, Drones make Unitas list
University of Virginia quarterback Chandler Morris and Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones have each been named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list.
James Madison’s Alonza Barnett III and Navy’s Blake Horvath also made the list.
The ACC placed 13 quarterbacks on the list, which led all conferences.
Morris Morris completed 62.9% of his passes for 3,774 yards and 31 touchdowns at North Texas last season. Drones passed for 1,562 yards and 10 touchdowns and ran for 336 yards and six scores in nine games last year while dealing with injuries.
UVA’s Robinson to miss games
University of Virginia head coach Tony Elliott said third-year linebacker Kam Robinson will miss a couple of games with a collarbone injury.
Robinson suffered a fracture in his collarbone on the first day of full-padded practice, Elliott said.
Robinson was the Cavaliers’ second-leading tackler last season and third-leading tackler in 2023. He’s collected 135 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, three interceptions and five pass breakups in those two seasons.
UVA opens its season Aug. 30 against Coastal Carolina at home.
Virginia Tech wide receiver/punt returner Tucker Holloway and defensive tackle Kemari Copeland and UVA defensive back Antonio Clary have been named to the watch list for the Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Five from NSU gain HBCU awards
Three Norfolk State athletes, a Spartans coach and a former coach have received HBCU Makeda Excellence Awards for the 2024-25 season from the Rice FAME Group.
Running back Kevon King, a former Oscar Smith High star, was Football Athlete of the Year, distance runner Brian Rotich was Men’s Cross-Country Athlete of the Year and guard Diamond Johnson was Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Year.
NSU’s Kenneth Giles was Men’s Cross-Country Coach of the Year and Larry Vickers was Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. Vickers left to become Auburn’s head coach.
Christopher Newport has been picked No. 1 in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference preseason volleyball rankings.
The University of Virginia has been picked third in the ACC field hockey preseason coaches poll. North Carolina is No. 1, followed by Duke. Cavaliers midfielders Mia Abello and Suze Leemans each made the preseason All-ACC team.
UVA women’s soccer player Pearl Cecil, a freshman defender, has been selected for the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team roster for a pair of friendly matches in Spain. The matches will be held Aug. 28 and 31 in Alicante, Spain.
Briefly
The Norfolk Admirals announced they have signed defenseman Connor Fedorek. He played 31 games for the Admirals last season and collected 14 points (four goals, 10 assists).
