The Washington Mystics returned to CareFirst Arena on Tuesday in search of their third-straight victory. Despite a hot start, Washington couldn’t keep its momentum going, losing to the Connecticut Sun, 80-69.

The Mystics opened the contest on a 15-5 run, scoring from all areas en route to a scorching start. But then Connecticut settled in, outscoring the Mystics 42-20 to enter the locker room ahead, 47-35.

Jade Melbourne highlighted Washington’s offense early, scoring eight points on 4-for-4 shooting in the first half. Former Mystics forward Aaliyah Edwards matched Melbourne’s production and efficiency for the Sun, finishing the half with eight points of her own.

The sides remained close in the third quarter, as Washington entered the final frame trailing by 11 points.

Connecticut maintained its 11-point edge, leaving D.C. victorious with an 80-69 win. Washington fell to 16-19 and saw its winning streak end at two games. Sonia Citron led the Mystics with 19 points, setting the franchise record for most total points scored in a rookie season.
