Draper/Pegula set up last-four clash
Draper says they will prepare with “total professionalism” for their semi-final tomorrow, a tongue-in-cheek comment given the exhibition feel of this event. Not that these two seem to be treating it that way when they’re on court; they’re pretty locked in.
They’ll play third seeds Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud tomorrow night after winning 4-1, 4-1 today.

The top seeds are into the semi-finals! A spirited defence by Medvedev and Andreeva, but a Draper smash has too much heft on it for Medvedev and he clatters it into the net.
Pegula and Draper are looking like a pretty well-oiled machine despite their newness as a partnership.

*Draper/Pegula 4-1, 3-1 Medvedev/Andreeva
And they stay alive! Pegula hits into the net.
Now Draper will serve for the match.

Draper/Pegula 4-1, 3-0 Medvedev/Andreeva*
A game away for the top seeds, who are looking very businesslike indeed. Over on Louis Armstrong, Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison are 4-1, 1-1 up against Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton.
Andreeva’s serve is crumbling a little… Pegula and Draper have a match point but Medvedev sets up deciding point with another one of those ludicrous, sharply-angled cross-court beauties.

The crowds have thinned out now – perhaps after all the hype, they’d have preferred to see Alcaraz/Raducanu in this encounter than Draper/Pegula, even with a home player in the mix.
The top seeds survive a deciding point to hold in the first game of set two… and Medvedev finds himself struggling on serve; Andreeva looks to have won the deciding point but puts too much on a lob and Draper/Pegula lead 2-0.

Quick as a flash Pegula holds serve and the top seeds then race to set point, 0-40 up on the Medvedev serve… but Draper palms into the net from close range.
Draper goes long on a second serve, and smart play by Andreeva, splicing the ball down the centre as both Draper and Pegula go for it, brings up deuce.
A brilliant point follows with every inch of the court covered; Andreeva looks to have won it several times but ultimately a lob lands just long of the baseline! 4-1.

Andreeva, under pressure on serve, does brilliantly to keep the ball in the court, at full stretch deep behind the baseline, and Medvedev looks surprised as he keeps a volley just in for deuce.
But Pegula and Draper snatch the early break.

After a little over 10 minutes to recover from their first-round win, Medvedev and Andreeva are back on court to face Draper and Pegula in their quarter-final.
It’s on serve in the early stages as Andreeva skews a second serve return off the Draper serve wide.

Collins/Harrison into quarter-finals
Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison had to work a bit harder in their second set, ultimately prevailing 4-0, 5-3 over Belinda Bencic and Alexander Zverev.
They’ll face Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton next.

Medvedev and Andreeva seal last-eight spot!
Djokovic nets to bring up 40-0 and match point on the Andreeva serve, mere minutes after he was 3-1 up.
Danilovic can’t keep a booming serve by Andreeva in the court, goes long, and that’s it! 4-2, 5-3 for the Russians, who made a good team out there, Medvedev in particular improving as the match went on, with Andreeva – although technically the junior partner – a very strong doubles player and keeping the ship steady.
Djokovic doesn’t look too upset, smiling at the net and waving to the crowd as he heads off to sign some autographs.
