It’s been 560 days since the last time Nick Saban coached a college football game for the Alabama Crimson Tide. That game resulted in a 27-20 overtime loss. Nine days later, Saban announced he’d be retiring from coaching, ending a historic run with Alabama that saw him finish with a 201-29 record plus six national championships.
Since then, we’ve seen Alabama rename their football field after him and later this year, Saban will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. There’s no denying that the 73-year-old has led a legendary career, but he may not be done.
According to former Alabama QB Greg McElroy’s sources, Saban could one day return to the coaching landscape.
“A very much in the know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around, and just really, really admire — they seem to think Nick Saban is not done coaching. He’s pretty adamant that he thinks Nick Saban will be coaching again.”

Even though he has the field named after him, odds are Saban won’t be returning to Alabama, where his replacement Kalen DeBoer is heading into season two of an eight-year, $87 million contract.
Then again, things change quickly in the college football landscape, so Saban could be back, just as quickly as he disappeared. Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s bound to return to Alabama for a second stint as the head coach.
