A 13-year-old girl died in a crash early Tuesday morning on the North Shore and a 16-year-old boy was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence, officials confirmed.The deadly crash in the area of 352 Atlantic Avenue in Marblehead occurred at 2:51 a.m., according to a statement issued by Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker and Marblehead Police Chief Dennis King. First responders found a vehicle that had suffered extensive damage. The 13-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene. Marblehead Public Schools Superintendent John Robidoux said the girl was an eighth-grade student in the district. “Her death is a devastating loss to our community,” Robidoux said in a statement. Officials said the suspected driver was treated for his injuries and taken to a local hospital. Tucker said the teenager was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.”We extend our heartfelt condolences to both families involved in this tragedy and request that their privacy be respected during this incredibly difficult time,” Robidoux said.
