ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – A game trail camera captured footage of a black bear walking along someone’s driveway south of Elkhart.
The photo was posted to social media Tuesday by Jim Missildine.
“My game camera on my driveway caught something strange today. This is NOT photoshopped. 100% legit photo,” Missildine said in the post. “YES THIS IS REALLY ON MY GAME CAMERA ON MY PROPERTY!!!!!”
Texas Parks and Wildlife said several black bear sightings have been confirmed across the counties of Anderson, Rusk, Panola and Cherokee.
They added black bears are native to Texas but are considered to be threatened, with “no resident populations” in East Texas as there are in neighboring states.
It is illegal to kill, injure, or capture a black bear with possible fines greater than $12,000 and jail time.
