The Minnesota Lynx currently hold No. 1 position in the WNBA standings with an impressive 28-5 record. And on Tuesday evening, the league’s top team will face off against the No. 3 squad in the standings: the New York Liberty.

The Lynx hold the league’s No. 1 spot in large part due to the stellar play of MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier. Through 26 game appearances this season, the five-time WNBA All Star is averaging 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.

Collier has missed each of the Lynx’s last four games after suffering a right ankle sprain in a win over the Las Vegas Aces on Aug. 2.

On Monday, the Lynx listed Collier as “doubtful” to take the court for Tuesday’s matchup against the Liberty.

While it appears likely Collier misses her fifth consecutive game on Tuesday, Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve has confidence that her star player will return to the court before the end of the regular season.

“That would be really problematic if she wasn’t able to [return before the end of the season]” Reeve said on Friday. “She’ll be back soon.”

“I don’t know exactly everything she’s doing,” Reeve added. “I know that she’s at the point where she’s running and doing what she’s supposed to be doing at this process.”

Despite Collier’s absence, the Lynx took down the Liberty with an 86-80 final score on Saturday. Courtney Williams led the way with 26 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jessica Shepard also chipped in with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double.
