“Venus Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion and four-time Olympic gold medalist, will compete in the 2025 Mubadala Citi DC Open. The American tennis icon has accepted a main draw wild card into the event. The tournament will take place July 19 to 27 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park, Washington, DC.
The Mubadala Citi DC Open is the world’s only combined ATP-WTA 500-level tournament. This year’s field features nine top-10 players, six Grand Slam champions, five former DC champions and 17 Americans, including the top nine US men.
For more than four decades, Williams has transcended the sport of tennis, leaving an extraordinary legacy. She holds 49 career singles titles and 22 doubles titles, including seven Grand Slam singles titles, 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, and two in mixed doubles. Her Grand Slam singles victories include five Wimbledon titles and two US Open titles. Williams is also a four-time Olympic gold medalist, earning top honors in 2000, 2008, and 2012. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, she became only the second player in history to win gold in both singles and doubles at the same Olympic Games. This will be her second time competing in the DC Open.
“I’m excited to accept a wild card to the Mubadala Citi DC Open. There’s something truly special about DC: the energy, the fans, the history,” said Venus Willams. “This city has always shown me so much love, and I can’t wait to compete there again!”
“We are so excited that Venus will be playing in the Mubadala Citi DC Open this year,” said Mark Ein, Mubadala Citi DC Open Chairman. “She has inspired people around the world with her accomplishments on the court and her visionary impact off the court. I know how much it means to our DC fans and community to be able to watch her compete in person this summer.”
