Per the Associated Press, according to an undisclosed source, Bolton has not been detained or charged with anything. The probe is said to be in connection with the handling of classified documents, per multiple outlets.
Back in 2020, Bolton published a memoir, The Room Where It Happened, where he slammed Trump as being under-informed about foreign policy and stated that he “is unfit to be president.” At the time, he said a second term with Trump “will be worse.”
There were some explosive claims in the memoir that included, Trump pleading with Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him with the 2020 US presidential election and him saying invading Venezuela would be “cool.”
Trump had threatened to send Bolton to prison for the book and tried to stop the publication of the release of the former United States ambassador’s book but a federal judge blocked his request. Trump had also fired Bolton during his first term, making 2019 the last time Bolton served in government.
The Justice Department probed Bolton over the chance he “unlawfully disclosed classified information” within his memoir. During Joe Biden’s presidency, officials closed the criminal investigation and dropped a related lawsuit surrounding the book in 2021.
Trump has made his disdain for Bolton clear over the years and recently took a shot at him on Truth Social on Bolton. In a post, blasting the media following the meeting with Putin in Alaska, saying, “Very unfair media is at work on my meeting with Putin. Constantly quoting fired losers and really dumb people like John Bolton.”
Trump stripped Bolton’s security clearance in the beginning of his second term in January. He also canceled the security detail for Bolton, who had been receiving security due to threats on his life from Iran.
Bolton has also expressed his mutual dislike of Trump as well. In a February interview with Sunday with Lewis Goodall, Bolton called Trump a “useful idiot” when he talked about speculation about Trump being a former Russian asset. Bolton had said, “Trump certainly performs as a useful idiot in advancing what Putin and the Russians seem to want.”
Bolton repeated the phrase again recently in a interview in June in a news British documentary, per the Daily Star. He said “Many alumni of the U.S. intelligence community have said to me that they think that Trump has been recruited by the Kremlin. I don’t think so. I think he is a useful idiot.”
The Daily Express US contacted the FBI and the White House for comment. It comes after alarming Trump health fears over a huge bulge spotted in his pants.
