If you have ever dreamed of getting up close and personal with an Alaskan brown bear and her cubs, this video is for you! And how close do we mean, exactly? We are talking of getting close enough to smell a mama bear and her adorable little cubs.

Does that sound dangerous, exciting, or both? Well, as this video shows, seeing these majestic animals up close and personal is exciting, beautiful, and more than just a little bit terrifying!

According to this video’s comment section, this Alaskan brown bear mama brought her cubs over to where these people were after a big bore chased them near the Alaskan coast. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, a boar is a male brown bear.

Initially, this group, who were led by a professional bear guide with more than a decade of experience, picked a viewing spot that was about 100 yards away from where this mama bear and her cubs were situated, during low tide.

However, the situation quickly changed when the boar chased the mama bear and her cubs in the direction of the people. The guide instructed everyone to stay put, because standing and moving around or making lots of noise might startle her.

He spoke very calmly to the mama bear throughout the encounter, and she remained calm while searching for clams for her cubs to eat. After a moment, she gathered up her cubs and moved them away.

The guide wrote in the comments section that he usually does everything he can to avoid close encounters because “bears can be unpredictable.” However, in the situation, there was no option for them to get out of the way, so they just let the “encounter take its course.”

He also added that this particular coastal brown bear is “used to humans being around” and “understands we are not a threat.” However, he did state that this encounter “would play out very differently with a non-habituated bear.”

He went on to state that people should “never approach bears under any circumstances. This is a unique situation in this region, and I have been around this particular bear and others like her here for over 10 years. There is nowhere else in the world I would feel comfortable being this close to any bear, especially with cubs.”

As this other video shows, this was not the bear guide’s first time getting up close and personal with a mama brown bear and her cubs.

Again, he also added in this video’s comment section that brown bears, or any bears that matter, are “the apex animal on almost every continent, and they will attack.” It should really go without saying, but yes, bears, especially when they are with their cubs, are not to be trifled with.
