Duke has put together another really impressive freshman class and one of the reasons people are excited is Dame Sarr. A 6-8 kid out of Italy, Sarr brings a lot of versatility to the roster. He should be plug and play at either forward spot or as the second guard – basically anywhere on the wing. He may or may not start and actually he may be much more valuable as the first guy off the bench.

This article looks more at his NBA potential, which should continue to rise throughout the season.

Sarr really rose to prominence at the Nike Hoop Summit this spring, and there’s an interesting story there.

Sarr had been playing for Barcelona, but his team did not want him in Portland. Sarr defied them, bet on himself and went anyway. He made a huge impression and is now a Blue Devil. Barcelona cut ties with him as a result, but he’s in a vastly better situation now, so his stubbornness paid off.

He’s going to have to adjust to college basketball of course. European basketball is good but not at all the same. Assuming he can make the adjustment, which seems like a reasonable bet, his versatility should pay big dividends for the Blue Devils this season.
