Andy Reid knows how to lead!
The Kansas City Chiefs head coach shared his reaction to the compliment Taylor Swift gave him during her appearance on boyfriend Travis Kelce‘s New Heights podcast when speaking with PEOPLE exclusively on the red carpet of The Kingdom screening on Sunday, Aug. 24.
In the Aug. 13 episode, Swift, 35, called Reid “the most iconic, legendary coach of all time.” Of his “leadership style,” she said, “I respect it so much because I feel like it’s done without aggression or raising your voice or losing your composure.”
“It’s all very composed and focused,” the 14-time Grammy winner said on the podcast, which is co-hosted by the tight end’s brother and retired Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce.

On the red carpet, Reid shared his thoughts in response to the singer’s kind words.
“She’s a good girl, first of all,” the Chiefs coach told PEOPLE exclusively at the event held at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Kansas City. “And I mean, might be the most famous lady in the world right now since the queen has passed away.”
“But what a phenomenal person she is,” he continued of Swift, adding, “And I appreciate her saying that. She’s a great leader herself, and so is Travis.”
Reid, who’s entering his 13th season has head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs with four Super Bowl titles to his name (three as head coach of the Chiefs and one as an assistant coach for the Green Bay Packers), was also praised for other attributes.
As seen throughout ESPN’s six-part docuseries, The Kingdom — which chronicles the Chiefs’ 2024 season and deep-dives into the franchise’s distinctive place in the NFL’s landscape — various players describe Reid as a father figure in their lives, in addition to being their coach.
“That’s a great compliment,” Reid told PEOPLE of hearing that from his team. “That might be the best compliment you can have.”

Reid is a father himself, and welcomed five kids — Britt, Garrett, Spencer, Drew Ann and Crosby — with his wife Tammy Reid, who he’s been married to for over four decades. (The couple also has 12 grandchildren, with whom they often share sweet moments together after Chiefs games.)
Throughout The Kingdom, viewers get an intimate look at the franchise’s larger-than-life figures and the lives they live away from the field — in addition to exploring the decades-long history of the team that would become the Kansas City Chiefs, founded by Lamar Hunt in 1958.
“I think we all learned something about the Chiefs’ history,” Chiefs president Mark Donovan told PEOPLE of watching the series. “Almost every episode you can tear up. It talks to the family, the culture the Hunts have created… the stories are so good.”

“These are some of the most famous people on the planet, so to bring them to life in a way where you kind of understand that they’re human beings is really cool and really satisfying,” Conner Schell, creator of The Kingdom and CEO of Words + Pictures, shared with PEOPLE at the event.
The Kingdom director Kristen Lappas, noted, “I do feel really proud of what we ultimately ended up making and I know from speaking with Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and Travis that they’re really happy with how this came out — so when the subjects are happy, you feel a new sense of peace and ease.”
She added, “So now I’m really excited for the rest of the world to see!”
The Kingdom is airing now and available for streaming on ESPN+.
