Questions are being asked about what caused a widespread internet outage in Waterloo Region on Friday afternoon.

Waterloo regional police said days later, it’s due to extensively damaged communications cables in Cambridge.

Officers said the damaged cables were found in the Speedsville Road and Royal Oak Road area of the city around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

They add that nothing was stolen, but investigators are actively looking for the suspect or suspects involved.

Crews were out all Friday afternoon, evening and overnight to get everything repaired by Saturday morning.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
