1. Nevada alum Cody Martin on Golden State Warriors’ wish list

Nevada Wolf Pack basketball alum Cody Martin is on the Golden State Warriors’ free-agent wish list, per NBA reporter Jake Fischer. Martin was waived by the Phoenix Suns this offseason, which declined his $8.6 million club option, making him a free agent. Martin was dealt from Charlotte to Phoenix at last year’s trade deadline. He played just 14 games with Phoenix after the deal. Martin has dealt with injuries since signing a four-year extension with the Hornets in 2022. He appeared in seven games in 2022-23, 28 games in 2023-24 and 58 in 2024-25, playing in 93 of a possible 246 games over the last three seasons. In his career, Martin has played in 259 games over six years, averaging 6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 43.6/30.8/66.1. The 29-year-old is in search of his third NBA team and has been one of the NBA’s better perimeter defenders when healthy.

2. Local products prep for NFL cut-down day

NFL teams must cut their rosters down to 53 players by 1 p.m. Pacific time today, which will impact the 18 players who entered training camp on rosters. Five have already been cut with WR Jaden Smith (Nevada) being waived by the Bucs with an injury designation; OL Ben Dooley (Churchill County) and TE McCallan Castles (South Tahoe) being waived by the Rams; and Elijah Cooks (Nevada) being waived by the Eagles; and the Bears cutting John Jackson (Nevada). That leaves 12 locals seating out the deadline. Here was the full list of players entering training camp.

3. Reno Aces’ A.J. Vukovich named PCL Player of the Week

Reno Aces outfielder A.J. Vukovich was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week after a red-hot performance in Salt Lake. In four games at The Ballpark at America First Square, the 24-year-old slashed .533/.611/1.200 for an OPS of 1.811 in 18 plate appearances. He notched eight hits in the series, including a double and three home runs, while recording seven RBIs and scoring six runs. In August, Vukovich is hitting .397 average with a 1.218 OPS. The 2020 fourth-round pick has been one of the PCL’s best hitters the last two-plus months. Since June 15, his .620 slugging percentage is tied for first in the PCL, his 1.042 OPS is second and his .341 batting average is third. He’s also among the league leaders in hits, runs, home runs, extra-base hits and RBI during that period, which covers 47 games.
