“The cause of the discharge has been corrected and the affected area has been checked for any residual effects. This notice was required by North Carolina General Statues Article 21 Chapter 143.215.C,” the release said.
There was a total of 19,213 gallons of untreated sewage that was discharged, and the discharge lasted 45 minutes. The discharge happened in an unnamed tributary to the French Broad River, the release said.
The Metropolitan Sewerage District reported the cause of the discharge was due to contractors accidentally damaging an existing line while they were installing a new sewer line.
