ROSELAND, La. (WAFB) – Days after a massive fire and explosion destroyed an industrial plant in Tangipahoa Parish, many workers are now navigating sudden unemployment.
To support those impacted by the Smitty’s Supply fire, the Louisiana Workforce Commission announced its rapid response team will hold four re-employment resource meetings.
SessionsThursday, Sept. 4 at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5 at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 2 p.m.
All sessions are at the Florida Parishes Arena, located at 1301 NW Central Avenue in Amite.
According to organizers, expert speakers from Geaux Jobs and the Unemployment Insurance Department will share resources and answer questions during the meetings to prepare attendees for their job search and help them successfully transition into their next career.
Topics expected to be covered during the sessions include training grants, job search and resume writing, job search webinars, unemployment insurance, labor market information, and community and health resources.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission previously announced it had set up a worker transition center from Monday, Aug. 25, through Friday, Aug. 20, for Smitty’s displaced workers.
Before the facility fire, more than 400 people were employed at Smitty’s Supply, an automotive manufacturing facility, in Roseland.
