Denis Shapovalov is one of several Canadian players who have made waves in tennis over the last decade.

At the age of 18, the former top 10 player announced himself on the world stage by defeating Rafael Nadal in front of his home fans at the 2017 Canadian Open.

Two years later, Bianca Andreescu stunned Serena Williams to win the US Open in 2019, while Felix Auger-Aliassime is a former top 10 player with seven titles to his name.

In 2025, the tennis world was introduced to another Canadian player who has the potential to be a tennis superstar, Victoria Mboko.

Denis Shapovalov took to Reddit to answer questions from fans.

Based on his responses, the 26-year-old is a big fan of Mboko, who won the Canadian Open title prior to the US Open.

Firstly, Shapovalov said he would like to win the Wimbledon title if he could win one Grand Slam, before answering who his favourite player is on the WTA Tour.

He was also asked who he would like to play mixed doubles with, and both answers were the same, the WTA’s world number 23, Mboko.

Both Shapovalov and Mboko have contrasting experiences at the US Open.

Shapovalov is seeded 27th and he will commence his campaign against Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics.

Mboko, on the other hand, is already out of her debut US Open after losing to former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova.

The Czech player dropped just five games in a 6-3, 6-2 victory as Mboko struggled to produce the type of tennis that took her to the title in Montreal.

Krejcikova will next face Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima, who overcame Olga Danilovic to reach the second round.
