STATE COLLEGE — Nevada coach Jeff Choate knew his Wolf Pack would be overmatched on Saturday at Beaver Stadium. And, they were. Still, the second-year leader of the Mountain West program was proud of the way his players battled in a 46-11 loss at Penn State.

“It was an outstanding win for the Penn State football team,” Choate said after the game. “They were a really challenging opponent. With the movements, stuff they do, and multiple formations, they are a good football team. I was proud of our defense. We put them in a lot of tough situations today to get some stops and get those field goals.

“The game had started a lot like how we wanted it to start where we got a couple first downs and then we’re moving the ball and possessing the ball. The turnovers obviously really hurt us but regardless they’re an outstanding team and really deserving. They’ll probably be number one next week. So, I’m excited for us to get back home next week.”

Nevada hurt itself by committing multiple turnovers. And, they did not find the end zone until the game’s final minute.

“I think we played with class,” Choate said. “We really appreciate how our guys came out and competed hard. There was a lot of back and forth. I wish we could’ve come onto the football a little better. I think that could result in some better scores.”

What did Penn State players say about the win?

Here’s a look at a smattering of quotes from Penn State players who spoke with reporters after the game:

“I would say it’s definitely the standard, and just upholding it every day. Coach Deion (Barnes) is on us every single day in practice about running to the ball, having fun as well and not putting too much pressure on anything. It’s my last year of college, so that’s really it.”

“It’s a blessing. It’s a blessing to have it happen the first game and just learn from it and build on it.”

Penn State receiver Kyron Hudson on playing within the Lions’ creative offense

“I think our game plan was pretty good. Obviously, you know, stop the quarterback or whatever it was, we did a good job, but we just got to get better. And you know, we trusted the game plan.”
