Officers with the Asheboro Police Department are investigating a shooting that killed one person and injured another. Police said it happened in the parking lot of Marshalls. Officers said they responded to a shots fired call on E. Dixie Drive around 7:06 p.m. Saturday. That is where they found the body of Alexander Benitez-Hernandez, 23. He was pronounced dead at the scene.Other officers found a red Ford F-250 traveling at a high speed on E. Salisbury Street shortly after the shooting was reported. Police confirmed that the driver was involved in the shooting, and he was transported to an out-of-county hospital. Investigators said this shooting was isolated to the two parties involved, and there is no public threat. Police said no one has been charged at this time. An investigation is underway.
