We are on to the round of 16 in the 2025 US Open. The year’s final Grand Slam tournament has seen plenty of upsets, drama and thrilling action as we head toward the second and final week of the event.
Madison Keys, the No. 6 seed, was upset by Renata Zarazua of Mexico as the American has failed to find the form she started 2025 with in winning the Australian Open. Plus, Coco Gauff continued her struggles with her serve and was visibly upset on the sidelines in her second-round win over Donna Vekic, but she got things moving in the right direction by making quick work of Magdalena Frech in the third round to set up a clash with Naomi Osaka in the round of 16.
Meanwhile, unseeded American woman Taylor Townsend continued her incredible run in New York as she took down No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva in straight sets to advance to the fourth round. It’s already her best showing at a Grand Slam in her singles career as she owns two titles in doubles with partner Katerina Siniakova. Townsend has had an eventful week in New York already after she got into a heated exchange with No. 25 Jelena Ostapenko after her straight set win where Ostapenko allegedly told Townsend that she had “no class and no education” when they shook hands. Now, she has an opportunity to turn it into an even bigger win by continuing this inspired run.
On the men’s side, four of the top 10 seeds have moved through to the fourth round. On Saturday, No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev was overwhelmed by No. 25 Felix Auger-Aliassime. Top seeds Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have performed as expected, advancing round after round with little drama.

The top American men were nearly all eliminated in one fell swoop in the third round. Ben Shelton, the No. 6 seed, was likely on his way to a win over Adrian Mannario when he suffered a shoulder injury and was forced to retire. Then, two-time semifinalist in this event, Frances Tiafoe, was taken out by veteran Jan-Lennard Struff. And in the final match of the round, No. 14 Tommy Paul battled through his own physical issues but couldn’t overcome No. 23 Alexander Bublik, who has yet to have his serve broken in the event.
Now, all hopes fall to No. 4 Taylor Fritz, who made the final a year ago. He’ll take on No. 20 Tomas Machac in the fourth round.Â
