The University of Louisville started recruiting four-star wing Colben Landrew a little later than some other schools.

But the Cardinals made up enough ground to get him on an official visit this past weekend.

Now, it seems like the staff has made up even more ground.

A 6-foot-6, 205-pound standout from Marietta, Ga., Wheeler High School, Landrew told Cardinal Authority on Sunday night that his weekend visit to Louisville went better than expected. He arrived on Thursday night, started the visit on Friday morning, and left town early Sunday.

“The visit went very well,” Landrew told Cardinal Authority. “It was amazing. I love it.”

Landrew was making his second trip to Louisville. He was a visitor on campus as a football recruit two years ago when the Cardinals knocked off Notre Dame. He landed an offer from the Louisville football staff as a tight end and was a promising football prospect until he decided to focus only on basketball.

But this time, the basketball staff hosted him and took him to the football game, a win over Eastern Kentucky.

“I felt like I fit right in with the players,” Landrew said. “Adrian Wooley, Khani (Rooths), and Mikel (Brown), those guys are great, and I just fit right in.

“They really did make it feel like home for me.”

Landrew said he’s built a great relationship with several on the Louisville staff, including head coach Pat Kelsey.

“He has a lot of energy and that’s good,” Landrew said. “With him, he’s not going to let you have any bad days. He’s just so energetic.

“Energy is a great thing, and he has a lot of it.”

Louisville started to recruit Landrew this summer, offered him later in the month, and made his short list of schools. The Cardinals watched Landrew in the spring, and then he became a top target at the July adidas event in Rock Hill, S.C. U of L assistant coach Thomas Carr was courtside for every event he played that week, and the Cardinals offered him.

The other schools still on his list are Alabama, Auburn, Connecticut, Georgia, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Purdue, Texas, and Texas A&M. He has already made an official visit to Purdue and is scheduled to visit Mississippi State (Sept. 19), Georgia (Sept. 26), Texas A&M (Oct. 4), Alabama (Oct. 18), and Auburn (Nov. 29).

“They started recruiting me a little later, but since then, they have been on it,” Landrew said of the U of L staff. “They have done a good job and check in with me all the time.”

Landrew was ranked No. 62 in the ’26 class by 247Sports heading into the summer but is expected to make a major jump, perhaps into the top 25, when the rankings are updated. Landrew helped lead Game Elite to a perfect record and the 17s title at the Adidas 3SSB circuit’s Palmetto Road Championship, among other successes.

Landrew is originally from Alabaster, Ala., and averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and shot 34 percent from three-point range in the 3SSB championship.

As far as a decision, Landrew said, “Right now, the plan is to make all of the visits (on his schedule).”
