Clint Bowyer’s wife, Lorra, shed light on the bizarre circumstances that led to her budding romance with the former NASCAR Cup Series driver.

Bowyer — who’s continued to make waves in the world of motorsport as a FOX Sports commentator — proposed to Lorra in December 2013 before tying the knot in April of the following year. The couple now share two children together: a 10-year-old son named Cash Aaron Bowyer and 8-year-old daughter named Presley Elizabeth Bowyer.

Long before Bowyer and Lorra became an item, however, the pair were longtime friends pursuing different people in the dating scene. “We met through mutual friends down here,” Lorra explained while making an appearance on the ‘Bless Your ‘Hardt’ podcast.

“We didn’t date for a long time. And it was kind of funny because, for a while, he would date other people, but we would just be friends. I was out of a relationship, he was out of a relationship, and I just didn’t want anything.”

In one instance, Bowyer even asked Lorra to serve as his wingman while out on a blind date with another woman. “It was the best thing. We went on a blind date together, but he was going on a date,” Lorra recalled.

“He was like, ‘Hey man, will you just come be my wingman?’ I remember I was up in Winston and I was like, ‘Well, that’s weird.’ He’s like, ‘Just please come. I don’t know what it’s going to be like.’ And I was like, ‘Okay.’

“We ended up hanging out at dinner, had dinner. I was like, this is so awkward. And yeah, we ended up going home. Then he called me later and he’s like, ‘Well, we went and watched a movie at my house.’ I’m like, don’t call me! Like, have fun. What are you doing?”

Other times, Bowyer would call Lorra to provide her with the latest updates in his love life. “He was in Daytona, he called me and was like, ‘Oh man, I met this girl.’ Blah, blah, blah,” she said. “I’m like, ‘Cool. Like, alright, I’ll see you next week.’”

DON’T MISS:

Eventually, Lorra decided to give Bowyer a chance — largely because of a noticeable change he made on the racetrack. During the 2009 NASCAR campaign, the No. 33 Chevrolet driver began his sponsorship with Cheerios General Mills after previously donning a Jack Daniel’s paint scheme while piloting the No. 07 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing from 2006-2009.

In Lorra’s eyes, the sponsorship switch proved that Bowyer was ready to settle down and take their relationship seriously. “He switched from Jack Daniels to Cheerios General Mills. I was like, ‘Yes, this might work. I was like, thank God,” she said. “And I remember he was like, ‘Dude, what am I going to do now? I was at the bar with Jack Daniels and now I’m going to be in Walmart selling Cheerios.’

“And I was like, okay, maybe this is going to be great. So it kind of changed. I think that’s when we started like hanging out, but it took a while.”
