Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Theater) for Tuesday, July 15, 2025 (Season 41, Game 222):
The title of a Pulitzer-winning play from 2007 mentions this month, as does another winner from 54 years prior
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Carl Adams, a litigation technology specialist originally from Des Moines, Iowa
Pete Johnston, a filmmaker & educator from Lansing, Michigan
Scott Riccardi, an engineer from Somerville, New Jersey (8-day total: $201,301)
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
It’s taken us 220-odd episodes this season, but a player has finally won $200,000 in regular play during Season 41, with Scott Riccardi’s 8th win taking him over that mark yesterday. He’s now just under $30,000 away from passing Roger Craig and making it into the top 20 all time in terms of regular play winnings. However, there are a couple of Midwesterners who want to end the streak at 8: Pete Johnston from Michigan and Carl Adams from Iowa. Can they do it? Possibly—Scott has had some incredibly dominant stretches, and some very ordinary ones as well. I suspect any outcome will rest more upon how Scott does as opposed to his challengers.

Of the two plays referred to in today’s Final Jeopardy clue, there’s one that I expect most to have heard of and one that is rather obscure. The most recent of the two—the one turned into an Oscar-nominated film—was Tracy Letts’s August: Osage County (the film version starred Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts). The earlier play was John Patrick’s The Teahouse of the August Moon, which also was a hit Broadway play back in the 1950s, though it is generally considered to have aged particularly poorly due to its racial insensitivity, especially towards Japan.
If one remembers August: Osage County, this should be a relatively straightforward Final Jeopardy clue. (I don’t expect anyone to be able to recall the John Patrick work, outside of a player of the calibre of Yogesh Raut or Victoria Groce.)

Andy’s Thoughts:
Scott moves to 20th all time in terms of regular play winnings.
As I’ve suggested in the past on social media, it sure would be a nice gesture, especially for the trans community, for Jeopardy! contestants who answer a clue about the works of J.K. Rowling—and go on to win that game—to donate that clue’s value to the Trevor Project or Trans Lifeline.
Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.
