ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — News 13 has an update on a beloved pet rescue destroyed by Helene’s floodwaters. Nearly a year after the storm, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue is still working hard to rebuild.

“[I] haven’t seen any stories on Brother Wolf…are they rebuilding…new location or same,” a viewer asked in an email. “How are animals, etc…a story here.”

BROTHER WOLF ANIMAL RESCUE PLANS NEW FACILITY AS HELENE RECOVERY CONTINUES

Brother Wolf Animal Rescue has saved more than 10,000 animals since 2007, and now the nonprofit needs a rescue of its own. The rescue was evacuated shortly before it was washed away when Helene barreled through nearly a year ago.

According to Brother Wolf, the rescue evacuated 100 animals before the storm. They also provided free veterinary care for hundreds of pets in the wake of Helene. The organization is now operating out of a temporary facility as it looks to rebuild.

Brooke Fornea, the director of marketing for Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, said the nonprofit remains hard at work helping animals and families despite the setback.

“Right now, all the animals in our care are living in loving foster homes while they get ready to be adopted. So far this year, we’ve already celebrated nearly 500 adoptions and helped 350 animals stay with their families and out of the overcrowded shelter system,” she said.

Fornea also said Brother Wolf is operating from a temporary space as they plan for a permanent new home.

She also said the best way the community can support Brother Wolf is by opening their homes to foster animals or by financially donating. Fornea said both are critical to the nonprofit’s lifesaving work and allow them to keep saying “yes” to the animals who need us most.
