One of the biggest names in IndyCar, Will Power, shocked racing fans worldwide after announcing a major career move. After driving for Team Penske for 17 years, the Australian driver announced his departure at the end of the season. As Power and Team Penske decided to end their long-standing alliance, many in the racing community questioned the IndyCar champion’s future in the sport.
Amidst this, a popular motorsports journalist made his predictions about Power’s future, which opened a whole new set of possibilities.
Will Power’s Departure From Team Penske and the Reason Behind It
When Power announced leaving Roger Penske’s squad at the end of the season, it came as quite a shock to many in the racing world.
Ever since Power joined Team Penske in 2009, it has been one of the most successful driver-team alliances in the sport. In his 17 years with the team, the Australian driver arrived in the victory lane 42 times.
Power also won two championship titles in his Team Penske tenure and came painfully close to winning on a handful of other occasions as well. Along with this, Power has also grabbed 71 pole positions in his IndyCar career.
Considering Power’s career stats, the obvious question is why the Australian decided to make a move at this stage. After the announcement, both Power and Penske spoke on similar lines and noted that it was time for the driver to take up a new challenge.
Power said, “It’s been the honor of my life to drive for Roger and the Penske organization. We have accomplished so much together, and I will always be grateful for my time with the team and my teammates who have supported me along the way. After much consideration, I felt like a change for me was the right move at this time.”
An incredible 17 years together.

Penske also believed it was time for a change in both Power’s career and the team. The legendary team owner also highlighted Power’s achievements and said:
“He has been an outstanding driver and teammate for our organization. His results speak for themselves, and we wish him the very best in the next phase of his career.”
A NASCAR Insider’s Predictions About Power’s Next Destination
Once Power and Penske explained the reason behind the decision, fans started wondering about the 44-year-old’s next destination. While there were many speculations about Power’s new home, he has yet to give an official word on it himself.
Motorports journalist Bob Pockrass scrambled a handful of options for Power and listed new possible destinations for the Australian driver when answering a fan’s question on X. He began by highlighting Power’s statement, who said he had options and was considering them.
Pockrass touched upon Colton Herta’s future and noted that if he switched to F2, Power could grab his seat at Andretti Autosport. Following this, he picked David Malukas and his rumors of joining Team Penske.
Pockrass believed that a move to A.J. Foyt Racing might also be possible in such a scenario. However, the team’s alliance with Penske’s squad might make it a bit unlikely for Power to choose it as his new squad.
Power said Saturday there are options … I’d expect if Herta goes to F2, Andretti is possible. With still-to-be-announced Malukas to Penske, Foyt? But doubt he wants a Penske alliance team. Rahal? McLaren? They say they’re set but would think they’d make moves if can get Power. https://t.co/MWy0ayA3Sa

Lastly, Pockrass also deemed Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Arrow McLaren would be keen on reworking their packed lineups if they had an opportunity to add a powerhouse like Powet to the team.
Though Power has not given any direct hints on where he might race in the upcoming season, considering his reputation and skill, the 44-year-old should not have a tough time landing a new contract, at least for the next few years.
