HOUSTON — A major golf course renovation has hit the brakes.

Houston officials paused the $30 million renovation of Hermann Park Golf Course, the city confirmed. The project — which was expected to begin this month and be completed in October 2026 — seeks to completely redesign the golf course and add a new driving range, club house, First Tee complex, adaptive golf learning facility and maintenance facility. Additionally, the renovation includes drainage upgrades and tree relocations.

The renovation needs Houston City Council approval. If approved, the project will be funded by the Astros Golf Foundation and the Hermann Park Conservancy.

“Out of respect for City Council Member Carolyn Evans Shabazz, who represents District D, which includes the Hermann Park Golf Course, the project has been paused to give additional time for community engagement,” Mayor John Whitmire wrote in a statement provided to the Houston Business Journal.
