New York Attorney General Letitia James has secured a settlement with MVP health plan over what she calls a “ghost network” of mental health providers.
The agreement comes after investigators found that none of the providers listed as “accepting new patients” in MVP’s directory were actually available.
The attorney general said that left some members without care or forced to pay out of pocket for treatment.
Under the deal, MVP will pay restitution to impacted members, adopt an industry-leading verification system, check provider listings every 90 days, pay $250,000 in penalties and fees and commit to expanding its mental health provider network.
An independent administrator will monitor MVPs compliance over the next two years.
