There have also been a number of bear sightings in the area.

Groveland police issued an alert this week regarding a family of bobcats spotted near the Georgetown-Groveland line.

A Blink camera captured footage of the bobcats walking through a residential driveway in the Crane’s Conservation area on the Georgetown-Groveland line.

Newbury police shared the post and reminded the public to “please remove any source of food and keep all trash cans closed tightly.”

The department also shared a post this week from Merrimac police, which warned the public of multiple bear sightings in the area.

“You may see a bear or two walking around or foraging for food and sometimes even smashing a bird feeder or two,” Merrimac police noted, warning that the public should not approach approach, feed, or stop to take photos and videos of wildlife.

“Most bears will leave people alone, should you encounter a bear stand like a tree, make yourself look as large as possible and make as much noise as possible, never run from a wild animal,” Merrimac police noted.

“It’s the time of year to bring your bird feeders in,” Newbury police added. “Bears use bird food as a source of food so they can bulk-up before winter hibernation.”
