On Thursday, September 4, 2025, chaos erupted in the 300 Block of North Sheridan in Ottumwa when gunshots rang out, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement. Officers from the Ottumwa Police Department and the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office were already in the area and quickly moved in to investigate.
Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle flee the scene of the shooting, leading deputies to perform a traffic stop in the nearby 100 Block of North Moore. Upon investigation, it was determined that two individuals had exchanged gunfire, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Chad Levi Forrester, a 41-year-old resident of Ottumwa, has been arrested and faces serious charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon and going armed with intent, both classified as Class “D” felonies. He is also charged with reckless use of a firearm, a simple misdemeanor. As of now, Forrester is being held in the Wapello County Jail without bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are exploring the possibility of additional charges. The Wapello County Sheriff’s Department is actively assisting in the inquiry, ensuring that all aspects of the incident are thoroughly examined.
