Thursday night’s season opener between the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys was suspended for one hour and four minutes during the third quarter due to lightning in the area. The Eagles led the Cowboys 24-20 at the time of the suspension, with the game resuming at 11:30 p.m. ET, and that score held up as Philadelphia started the season 1-0.

At the time of Thursday’s delay, the Eagles had taken over possession after recovering a Miles Sanders fumble as the Cowboys were in the red zone looking to regain the lead. Philadelphia quickly went three-and-out after action resumed following a 15-minute warm-up period and punted the ball back to Dallas. But the Cowboys punted on their next two possessions and then turned it over on downs as the Eagles earned the win.

The Cowboys are no strangers to early-season weather delays in Pennsylvania. Last season, a Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 6 was delayed for over an hour due to thunderstorms. That Sunday night game was scheduled to begin at 8:22 p.m. ET and didn’t kick off until 9:45 p.m. ET. The Cowboys won the game 20-17 in the final seconds on a game-winning touchdown pass from Dak Prescott to Jalen Tolbert.
