Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor will make her first in-studio appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday, September 9. The booking comes as Sotomayor releases her new children’s picture book, Just Shine! How to Be a Better You, which arrives in bookstores the same day.

Though Tuesday will be Sotomayor’s first time joining Colbert at the Ed Sullivan Theater, she is no stranger to his programs. In 2018, Colbert traveled to Washington, D.C., for a taped interview with her that aired on The Late Show, and she previously appeared on The Colbert Report in 2013.

Colbert has become a favored stop for left-leaning members of the high court during his ten years behind the Late Show desk. Past guests on his CBS late-night show have included Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Sotomayor’s new book, inspired by her mother Celina’s life of helping others, is aimed at encouraging children to embrace kindness, resilience, and community spirit. It marks the justice’s latest foray into children’s publishing, following earlier titles including Just Ask! and Turning Pages: My Life Story.

Also slated to join Colbert Tuesday night on The Late Show is Emmy-winning actor Eugene Levy.
