Manchester United have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Turkish club Trabzonspor to loan goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Cameroon stopper has seen his position put at risk following the arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp in an £18.4million deal.

Onana has not started any of United’s three Premier League games so far this season, with Altay Bayindir standing in. Though he has not covered himself in glory either and Lammens has been brought in with a long-term view, after Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez was also considered on transfer deadline day.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that an agreement between the two clubs has been struck to sign Onana on loan for the remainder of the season. The 29-year-old now has a decision to make over whether he wants to leave for Turkey, or continue to fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Onana, who missed the majority of pre-season through injury, had initially vowed to stay and try and regain the number one jersey. But he has been offered first-team football elsewhere.

United are not thought to be standing in Onana’s way if he does want to leave in favour of Trabzonspor. TalkSPORT claim that Onana is giving serious consideration to accepting the proposal and both clubs are awaiting his response.

The English transfer window closed on Monday evening, at 7pm, but the Turkish window remains open until Friday, September 12 and clubs are still able to do business to send their players to the Turkish Super Lig.

However, teams such as Manchester City were forced to complete their business with Turkish sides on Tuesday in order for the likes of Ederson and Ilkay Gundogan to be included in Champions League squads.

Trabzonspor, who currently sit second in the table, did not qualify for any European competition this season and do not have the same factors to consider.

And with four goalkeepers now in Ruben Amorim‘s squad, Onana is in line to depart, leaving the Portuguese head coach with new boy Lammens, Bayindir and Tom Heaton as his options for the campaign.

“I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United; it is a real dream come true,” Lammens said after sealing a deadline-day switch. The past few years have been an amazing journey, and it’s now ended in an incredible destination and hopefully the beginning of something special.

“You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years. I cannot wait to get to know my team-mates and begin working with Ruben and the coaching staff.

“This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives.”
