Denny Hamlin was subject to boos from NASCAR fans after his win at the Enjoy Illinois 300 in the Cup Series championship playoffs.

Hamlin was able to get the win while holding off last weekend’s winner in Chase Briscoe in a strong showing for the 44-year-old, now in good position to compete for his first-ever championship as the playoffs continue.

Yet the legendary driver found himself subject of boos after his win, embracing the villain role and revealing he enjoys the jibes from fans.

“Bring them on,” Hamlin said to the booing fans. “You can either get on the bandwagon, or you can get run over by it.”

Prior to this, Hamlin said, “It’s so big for everyone at Toyota and JGR. Our Toyota was great there at the end. Fantastic day. It couldn’t be better.”

The veteran driver smiled as he addressed the fans, while looking into the camera before sending his message.

It was another fantastic day for Hamlin to secure his fifth win of the season, finishing in first place ahead of his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Briscoe.

Hamlin is locked in to the Round of 12 with the win, while also being one victory away from Kevin Harvick on the all-time NASCAR Cup Series win list.
