Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh isn’t shy about praising forward Angel Reese, and recently, he placed her in rare company.

Speaking with sports commentator Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Marsh drew a connection between Reese’s game and the style of Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Famer James Worthy.

“That’s a little before my time,” Marsh joked, acknowledging Worthy’s era, at a time when Larry Bird dominated the hardwood. “But yeah, I’m familiar with James [Worthy] but I’m more familiar with Angel.”

What struck Marsh most was Reese’s versatility—something that defined Worthy’s career and is quickly becoming a hallmark of Reese’s.

He explained that the 22-year-old forward is already showcasing skills that separate her from her peers, even those who wish to crossover in the modern era. “There’s so much more room for growth and there’s so much progression that she’s shown from Year One to Year Two,” Marsh said.

For the Sky coach, Reese’s progress isn’t just about improving one category of her stat line. Instead, it’s about how she’s learning to expand her impact across the floor.

He noted that she’s becoming more effective by recognizing new aspects of her game in real time—a sign of advanced basketball IQ. “I think she’s realizing all the other aspects of her game in real time to be effective and she’s showing it night in and night out,” he said.

Marsh also emphasized her trajectory, believing that Reese’s ceiling is still far away. “What she’s able to do now and what she’s continuing to be able to do in this league, she’s going to be one of the top players in this league for years to come,” he explained.

As Chicago continues its WNBA campaign, Reese’s development and nightly performances remain a focal point for the Sky and for Marsh’s vision of the team’s future.
