Netflix on Tuesday released the trailer for Nouvelle Vague, Richard Linklater‘s ode to the French New Wave movement that stars Guillaume Marbeck as Jean-Luc Godard, Aubry Dullin as Jean-Paul Belmondo and Zoey Deutch as Jean Seberg.
The pic, which had its world premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival, hits U.S. theaters on October 31 before dropping on the streamer November 14.Â

Nouvelle Vague, shot entirely in Paris, mostly in French and in black and white, centers on the events surrounding the making of Godard’s New Wave classic Breathless, which starred Seberg and Belmondo. Linklater’s love letter to cinema also features characters like Jean Cocteau, Robert Bresson, Roberto Rossellini, Jean-Pierre Melville, Eric Rohmer, Agnes Varda and Jacques Rivette.
Godard’s actual Breathless production was chaotic and improvised, with the movie shot with a hand-held camera on the streets of the City of Light during the summer of 1959. Seberg and Belmondo starred, and Godard collaborated on the script with fellow New Wave icons Claude Chabrol and François Truffaut. Breathless won him the Golden Bear for directing at Berlin in 1960.
Netflix acquired Linklater’s pic for a record $4 million just after the film scored an 11-minute ovation at its world premiere at Cannes.
