Emma Uber
Press Release | The Washington Post
An announcement from Managing Editor Kimi Yoshino and Metro Editor Maria Glod:
We are excited to announce that Emma Uber, just off a distinguished run as an inaugural one-year fellow on the Local desk, permanently joins the department as a breaking news reporter.
In her new role, Emma, a high-metabolism and dogged reporter who has shown an ability to step into the biggest stories of the day, will cover crime and other breaking news in the Washington region, plus explore the dynamic area’s culture and quirks.
Among her accomplishments as a fellow, Emma chronicled the heartbreaking search for a missing Virginia mother who authorities believe was a victim of deadly domestic violence and the criminal case of a police officer who shot an unarmed man. She revealed, after a NICU nurse at a Virginia hospital was charged amid an investigation into injuries to infants, that a health department report had concluded the facility waited longer than the time federally required to report suspected child abuse. And she was on the reporting team this year that took readers inside the aftermath of the deadly midair collision between a plane and helicopter over the Potomac.
Emma is also a graceful writer who has explored deeply personal stories. She introduced readers to neighbors who came together to revive a decaying 4-foot tall sign in their community after the man who made it died. And she spent time with a woman who had been repeatedly abused as a girl and young teen, and who, decades later, was ready to report that abuse.
A graduate of Indiana University, Emma previously covered breaking news at the Tampa Bay Times, interned with Indianapolis Monthly magazine and worked with the national investigative team at USA Today.
Emma started in her new role this month. Please join us in congratulating her.
