Chicago post-rock staples Tortoise are back with their first new album in nine years. Touch arrives on vinyl, CD, and digital download on October 24, via International Anthem and Nonesuch, with the album coming to digital streaming platforms on November 11. Today, Tortoise are sharing the new song “Layered Presence,” with its Mikel Patrick Avery–directed music video. Check it out below.

Touch, Tortoise’s eighth studio album and the follow-up to 2016’s The Catastrophist, was recorded and mixed by the band’s own John McEntire. The quintet—Dan Bitney, John Herndon, Douglas McCombs, McEntire, and Jeff Parker—wrote all 10 songs on the LP together, but recorded them in the three cities that where the members now reside: Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon. Included on the Touch tracklist is “Oganesson,” which Tortoise released back in March.

Fans hoping to catch Tortoise live soon are in luck, as the post-rock band is slated to perform extensively in North America and Europe. That trek begins next month and lasts on through to April 2026. Find the group’s complete list of upcoming tour dates below.
