Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza gets candid about team’s inconsistencies originally appeared on The Sporting News
The New York Mets kicked off an important three-game series on Monday against their division foes, the Philadelphia Phillies. Between the two starting pitchers, Nolan McLean and Aaron Nola, there was not much offense from the two clubs.

Philadelphia got out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning thanks to an RBI single off the bat of Nick Castellanos. That would be the only run either team would score as the Phillies would go on to win the game by a score of 1-0.
It was an upsetting loss, and it is not doing the Mets any favors for their wild-card race. They currently sit just three games ahead of the San Francisco Giants with just a few series left in the regular season.

After the loss, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza addressed the media. He was honest in his take on how his club is handling business right now, via an X post from SNY.

“Yeah. Look, we’ve been pretty inconsistent. And we put ourselves in this position, which, we’re still right there, obviously,” said Mendoza. “The goal is to win the division. But, like you mentioned, we’re eight [games] back now, I guess that’s what it is. But we’ve got to get ready for another game tomorrow, and continue to get the job done. But overall, the inconsistency, and here we are in this position.”
With the regular season dwindling, the Mets cannot afford any more inconsistencies. They need to go out and string some wins together, win some series, and give them some breathing room down the stretch.
