Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner continued their streak of Grand Slam dominance at the 2025 US Open.
The pair had shared the previous three majors of the year, as Sinner won in Australia, Alcaraz won in Paris, before Sinner won Wimbledon.
Maintaining their impressive records, Sinner and Alcaraz qualified for the US Open final, doing so in convincing fashion.

In four sets, Alcaraz defeated Sinner, clinching the title, as the world number one and two will finish the year having won two Grand Slams each.
Reacting to the US Open final, former American tennis star Jim Courier has suggested what the rest of the ATP Tour may be thinking.

Speaking to ‘Clay‘, Courier gave his verdict on the gap between Alcaraz/Sinner and the rest of the ATP Tour.
“We’re incredibly lucky as tennis fans to have these two guys that have totally taken over from Novak [Djokovic], the last of the Big Three still standing,” he said.
“He still made four semifinals this year, but these guys, as Novak said, rightfully impressed.

“They’ve separated themselves from the rest of the field, including him right now.”
Courier then suggested what other ATP Tour players might be thinking as Alcaraz and Sinner continue to dominate.
“We’ll see how long they can remain the two dominant players, and whether someone can get in the middle the way Novak did with Roger [Federer] and Rafa [Nadal]. But for now, it’s their tour,” he said.
“The rest will be thinking about how much more they need to improve, and that’s exactly what inspired Novak to reach his great heights.

“Whether it’s one of the guys already on tour, or maybe a junior, they’ll be watching and working hard to catch them.
“But these two are also going to work hard to stay ahead.”
Between 2004 and 2010, Nadal and Federer won 24 of the available 28 Grand Slam titles.
Watching the pair perform at the highest level, Djokovic fought hard to insert himself into the conversation and did just that.
Over the next decade, Djokovic won more titles than Federer and Nadal.

Whether the same will happen in today’s game remains to be seen, although it’ll be tough to dislodge the world number one and two.

Since the beginning of the 2024 season, no player other than Alcaraz and Sinner has won a Grand Slam title.

That’s not to say others haven’t come close, however, as both Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev missed out on Grand Slam glory in a deciding set.
Looking ahead to 2026, it will be interesting to see if any of the losing finalists can push on and challenge Alcaraz and Sinner.
Medvedev will be one to watch, hiring Swedish coach Thomas Johansson to his team after a dismal 2025 campaign.
Zverev, a perennial contender, will be another to keep an eye on, as he remains Alcaraz and Sinner’s closest challenger, at least in the world rankings.
24-time Slam winner Djokovic shouldn’t be counted out either, having made the semifinals of all four majors in 2025, although his age is definitely a concern.
Finally, America’s Taylor Fritz, the 2024 US Open runner-up, could be a contender, especially at Wimbledon, where he impressed this year.
It may, of course, be another player who puts an end to Alcaraz and Sinner’s streak of dominance, with top-ten stars Ben Shelton and Jack Draper likely challengers.
Whatever happens, you won’t want to miss any of the action when the Australian Open begins on Monday, January 12, 2026
