A father and son fishing trip in Canada was joined by a special visitor, which they captured perfectly on film, leaving the internet stunned.
Jeremy Newfarmer and his father went on a weeklong fishing trip in Manitoba, Canada, at the beginning of August. He told Newsweek that this was his fifth trip with his dad to the area. However, this trip stood out because of the close encounter they had with a bald eagle.
“I’ve seen lots of bald eagles every time I’ve gone on a trip there,” Newfarmer said.
The area has experienced an increase in bald eagle sightings since society changed the use of pesticides that impacted the bird population, according to CTV News.
Once on the verge of extinction, the bald eagle is thriving in North America. The American Eagle Foundation estimates that there are approximately 316,700 individual bald eagles, including 71,400 nesting pairs, in the contiguous United States.
While out on Elbow Lake, the two spotted an eagle approaching. The bird glided through the air, skimming the water for prey. But it didn’t catch a fish on the first try, and when Newfarmer saw the eagle circling back, he quickly grabbed his phone and started recording.

The eagle swooped in for a second time, right next to where the father-son duo were fishing. In one quick motion, the eagle snatched a fish from the lake and continued to fly off without skipping a beat.
“Still is one of the coolest moments I’ve ever gotten to record whilst in Canada,” he said.
Newfarmer’s sibling shared his video on Reddit‘s r/interestingasf***, which quickly amassed over 57,000 upvotes and 908 comments. He said it was the first thing he sent once he reached cell service.
The video was shot in slow motion to give viewers a closer look at the majestic animal, as it happened in the blink of an eye.
“That was incredible, shoutout to the cameraman for the Nat Geo shots,” one Redditor commented.
“What an incredible thing to witness so close!” another commenter said.
“This video would make you believe that those Eagles never miss, but around the same area in BC, I have watched Eagles swoop down and miss all day long. Amazing video BTW,” a third commenter said.
