Alvin Robertson is the single season steals per game leader for Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Bucks have long been defined by their defense, with stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo earning recognition as a Defensive Player of the Year. When it comes to steals, though, several standout Bucks have etched their names into the record books. Here’s a look at the five players who lead the franchise in single-season steals per game.

Alvin Robertson, 1991, 3.0 SPG

Robertson spent the first five seasons of his career with the Spurs. He led the league in steals per game two times during that span and won one Defensive Player of the Year award. The Spurs then traded him to the Bucks prior to the 1989-90 campaign. In 1990-91, he led the NBA again, averaging 3.0 steals per game. Robertson also averaged 13.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists while making the All-Star team, being named All-Defensive First Team and finishing third in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Alvin Robertson, 1992, 2.6 SPG

With his average of 2.6 steals per game in 1991-92, it marked the seventh straight season in which Robertson averaged at least that many steals. He did so despite playing two fewer minutes per game than the season prior. This would mark his final full season as a member of the Bucks as the team traded him to the Pistons during the 1992-93 season.

Alvin Robertson, 1990, 2.6 SPG

In his first season with the Bucks, Roberston averaged 2.6 steals to go along with 14.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. He was named to the All-Defensive Second Team and finished fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting. Over 283 career regular-season games with the Bucks, Robertson averaged 12.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.7 steals.

Quinn Buckner, 1982, 2.5 SPG

The Bucks selected Buckner with the seventh pick in the 1976 Draft. The 1981-82 season was one of his best statistical campaigns with him averaging 12.9 points, 4.7 assists and 2.5 steals. It also marked the only season of his career in which he averaged over 30 minutes per game. His contributions led to him being named All-Defensive Second Team. Following the season, the Bucks traded Buckner to the Celtics.

Quinn Buckner, 1977, 2.4 SPG

After making him a first-round selection, the Bucks played Buckner an average of 27 minutes per game during his rookie season. He didn’t score a ton, averaging 8.6 points and shooting 43.4% from the field. However, he was a defensive menace with his 2.4 steals per game. He was also a good facilitator, averaging 4.7 assists per game. Buckner spent the first six seasons of his career with the Bucks and he averaged at least 1.9 steals in each of them. He also made All-Defensive Second Team four times. Across 461 career regular season games with the franchise, he averaged 10.3 points, 5.2 assists and 2.3 steals.
