WLUK – The Milwaukee Brewers were robbed of a touch of anticipation going into Saturday’s evening contest versus the St. Louis Cardinals, thanks to the New York Mets. A Mets afternoon loss meant Milwaukee did not need to win their game to clinch a playoff berth. Rather, a win would have just been icing on the cake. Which it was.
Despite being the first team to 90 wins and the first team to clinch a playoff spot the Brewers have yet to clinch the National League Central title. In order to do that they need to keep winning. After what looked like a mark in the “loss” column halfway through Saturday’s game Milwaukee did what Milwaukee does best: comeback.
The Brewers pulled out an extra-inning, walk off victory in 10 innings at American Family Field. The win not only gave the Brewers a 2-0 series lead over St. Louis it also grew their division lead over the Cubs to 6.5 games.
Following the victory Brewers’ Manager Pat Murphy, hoping for a second-straight NL Manager of the Year title, and star Christian Yelich, hoping for another 100 RBI/30 HR season, addressed the team in the locker room.
