Police said a person has been taken into custody in connection with the death of a missing man who was found in the Ohio River earlier this month. Stephen Williams, 41, was reportedly last seen on Sept 5., leaving the Downtown Wyndham hotel before he was later found dead in the Ohio River near the Rivers Casino along the North Shore. According to a criminal complaint, 25-year-old Jose Soto and an unidentified man followed Williams along the Riverwalk in an attempt to rob him. The complaint said Soto and the second individual engaged in an altercation with Williams and later threw his body into the river.Officials said the video surveillance appeared to show one of the men wearing Williams’ backpack following the altercation. The second suspect involved was last described as wearing an orange and pink t-shirt and dark pants. Polce have not said if they were taken into custody. Police said Soto was already being housed at the Allegheny County Jail on separate charges when they identified him. He is facing multiple charges, including criminal homicide and murder.
