Nick Kyrgios is set to make a comeback to tennis later this month, following the conclusion of the Wimbledon championships.
Kyrgios announced his return on social media, revealing he will feature at the Washington Open in late July, where he is a two-time champion.
The Australian has played just five singles matches on the ATP Tour this season, with his most recent appearance coming at the Miami Open in March.
He has struggled with multiple injuries that have kept him out of action for a large portion of the last three years.
Aged 30, Kyrgios still has time to capture an elusive Grand Slam title, but American tennis legend John McEnroe thinks it might be too late.

On 6-Love-6, McEnroe said of Kyrgios: “I feel bad because I think after Carlos Alcaraz on the men’s side, he is the most talented player. He is 30 years old now. I have to say, for me, it’s a bit of a waste. It’s too bad.
“He was so talented, but as athletes, we all have this fear of failure, this is my opinion, it’s tough to deal with.
“Everyone has their own issues. He has had his own issues. I have talked to him off the court; he’s a good kid.
“He was in the Wimbledon final, and remember when Sue Barker did that interview and said ‘this might inspire you to work harder’. Oh God, no. That was it.

“He got to the quarters of The Open and lost to [Karen] Khachanov in five, and since then, he has played like three matches.
“By the way, I have done some commentary with him. He is a good commentator. He has got personality. He is good to have around the game. Kids like him. But you sort of wish he would play.”
Former world number four Tim Henman added: “There is mental, technical, and physical and the physical application.”
“Has he trained as hard as he could have done? And his body has perhaps let him down. He can’t compete.”

Despite never winning a major, Kyrgios has made some deep runs at the biggest tournaments in tennis.
In 2014, he advanced to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon following his shocking fourth-round victory over Rafael Nadal, but ultimately bowed out to Marin Cilic.
The next year, he made it to the last eight at the Australian Open, but lost to eventual finalist Andy Murray in straight sets.
Kyrgios didn’t return to the latter stages of a Grand Slam until 2022, when he reached the final of Wimbledon, where he was overcome by Novak Djokovic.
After his quarter-final finish at the US Open later that summer, he didn’t appear at a major for two years due to injury.
