Dave Mason, one of the founding members of the rock band Traffic, has announced he will retire from touring.

The news was shared in a post on Mason’s official Instagram account.

Mason’s retirement is due to ongoing health challenges, according to the post.

“Dave Mason’s legacy is a testament to the enduring power of rock n’ roll and to a man who has followed his passion with authenticity and joy for more than six decades,” the statement reads.

The news comes after Mason was forced to cancel his 2025 tour dates earlier this year, stemming from an infection in March, according to a post on his Facebook page.

During retirement, Mason will continue to pursue other creative projects, including an upcoming children’s book and unreleased music, according to the statement.

Mason, a singer-songwriter and guitarist, co-founded Traffic in 1967 with fellow members Jim Capaldi, Steve Winwood and Chris Wood.

The band became known for hit singles “Hole in My Shoe” and “Feelin’ Alright?”

Mason was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of Traffic.
