Oklahoma has landed its first commit in the class of 2026. Gage Mayfield – a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward from Moundville, Alabama announced his commitment to the Sooners on Thursday afternoon. Mayfield chose Oklahoma over Florida State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Mayfield spent his summer with Pro One of the UAA Circuit, where he averaged 13.8 points per game and 1.7 blocks per game. He has the right frame to be a forward at the collegiate level, and is considered one of the most physical and strongest players in his recruiting class.
He is very young for his grade, so he does have some areas that need work, but Mayfield is viewed as an elite defender with some of the best rim-protection skills in the class. Scouts have viewed him as a future wing player, and someone that will have the ability to play inside-out at the next level. Mayfield is entering his senior season at Hale County High School (AL) and is the top-ranked player in the state of Alabama.
He is ranked as four-star recruit and the No. 60 overall prospect in the class of 2026, according to 247Sports.
