Those who want to see West Brighton hoopster Liam Murphy play for Purdue in person without leaving the East Coast will have that opportunity.

The Big Ten Conference released its men’s basketball schedule on Thursday and the Boilermakers will make two trips east, including one that’s essentially a stone’s throw from Staten Island.

Purdue opens its Big Ten schedule on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J. Depending on traffic, the Scarlet Knights’ campus is approximately a half hour from the Island.

Then, on Sunday, Feb. 1, Purdue will visit the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. The trip from Staten Island is approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes (206 miles).

Start times have yet to be announced for both contests.

Purdue is playing 27 regular-season games and the East Coast trips are two of 10 contests the Boilermakers will play away from their West Lafayette, Indiana, campus..

Purdue will trek to the University of Alabama (non-league game vs. the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa), the Bahamas (Baha Mar Championship along with Memphis, Texas Tech and Wake Forest) and Los Angeles (Big Ten games vs. USC and UCLA). However, head coach Matt Painter’s squad will play a whopping 17 home games at Mackey Arena.

The Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament will take place at the United Center in Chicago in March and the Final Four will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis between April 4-6. Indianapolis, of course, is about an hour away from Purdue’s campus.

Tickets for Purdue’s games at Rutgers and Maryland will go on sale later this fall.
