Kollam: Complaints have been rife that former expatriates or those who have returned to Kerala have been excluded from the NORKA Care health insurance project. The coverage is apparently available only to expatriates currently settled in foreign countries and Keralites residing in other states. This will eliminate millions of former expatriates who have returned to Kerala from the insurance project. They have been told that they cannot be included in the project as they do not possess NORKA’s ID card.
Meanwhile, the authorities have been urged to include at least those who have returned in the last few years. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the project on September 22. Those who have NORKA membership can register for this project from September 22 onwards. The last date for enrolment is October 21, while the policy will be implemented on November 1.
The Group Mediclaim Policy (GMC) and the Group Personal Accidental Policy (GPA) are the two available policies. Policyholders and their family members could get up to Rs 5 lakh for any health issue under the GMC policy. Meanwhile, policyholders could get up to Rs 10 lakh for all kinds of accidents in GPA. This medical insurance coverage is available for persons between 18 and 70 years of age. They will have to seek medical treatment in India to be able to avail themselves of the benefits of this health insurance policy. Â
